Pivot Template Information

What are templates?

Pivot templates are a collection of files that contain the markup that determines what your pages will look like. Normally Pivot templates consist of HTML, template tags and CSS.

How do they work?

When you post an article or comment Pivot uses the templates to create the pages of your site. It inserts information into your pages where you have placed template tags. Changing a template will result in changes to your website.

Template Tags?

Template tags are placed into your templates so Pivot knows where to insert content into your pages. To see a list of the many different tags that can be used in Pivot templates head over here!

It doesn't work.. I need help!

If you're building your own templates and run into a problem head over to the Templates and Layout section of the Pivot Support Forum. Please remember that no- one is *required* to help you but I am sure you will find that the Pivot community will lend a helping hand if you ask nicely. If you have downloaded a template from here it is suggested that you either go to the Template and Layout forum at the Pivot website, or contact the author of the template directly by email. Their email information can be found in the readme.txt file included with each template.

Can I make a template?

YES! Anyone can make a Pivot template! (well, almost anyone...)

Are there any guidelines?

Templates submitted to Pivot Styles should 'try' to abide by the following guidelines:
  • No graphics for the title. (This way the log is easy to configure for other people. It can still have a graphical background, though.)
  • Graphics and css you use should be placed in the pivot/templates/ folder
  • Must be complete with all templates required to function. (all contents of the /templates/directory)
  • Try to make the template 'elastic' or make it fit within 800 pixels wide.
  • If possible, when images are included in your template design, original non-compressed versions (.psd/.psp) be included so others will be able to modify them for their own use.
  • Zip all of the files and include a readme.txt file in the following format:
***********************************************
Pivot Template : [template name] [version] [size in Kb]
-------------------
Created : [date]
Copyright : [copyright in use - GPL/CC/etc]
Creator : [your name]
Email : [your email]
Web : [your URL]
************************************************
[copyright statement - i.e. This template is free; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.]
************************************************
Description / Special Instructions:

[Include detailed instructions of how to apply your template to a default Pivot install.]

***********************************************
Templates that require payment of any kind for private use will not be accepted. Submitted templates that are not complete or are not fully functional will be discarded and the submitter informed so that changes can be made and the template re-submitted. Accepted submissions will be posted to the Pivot Styles website as soon as possible.

Where do I send my template?

Email completed templates to admin@pivotstyles.net. Once they are received they will be tested and if they work they will be posted to the Templates section as soon as possible. If a template and it does not work, (when setup as directed in the readme.txt file), the submitter will be notified by email. Templates will only be added to the Templates section if they 'work'. Pivot Styles reserves the right to refuse any template at its sole discretion.
